Laura Siddall - Update

This past month has seen the start of my European Adventures, chasing summer and racing the Challenge Family European Series. I’m excited to announce I’m an Ambassador for the Challenge Family European Series, and excited to race across Europe in some new countries.

I’m currently two races and four countries down, having just races The Championship, in Slovakia last week and just a week later Challenge Herning in Denmark (with stops at airports in Austria and France). The Championship was a fantasHc event held at the X-bionic Sphere in Samorin. It’s a mulH sport complex and impressive set up. The race had fantasHc live coverage, a real bonus in current environment, and from an athlete perspecHve was a very well organised event, and so convenient and easy with everything on site. Personally I didn’t have a great day, just one of those days when you’re given lemons and can’t make lemonade let alone gin n’ tonic! It was just unfortunately a day when I never really got out of third gear, and I think just the past couple of weeks of travel and countries, leM me flat. It was always likely to be a possibility, with my movements and then being back at home, but of course you never want it to happen in any race let alone a Championship event.

However what a difference a week made and I travelled to Herning in Denmark to race Challenge Herning, which also doubled as the ETU European Middle Distance Championships. I was in a completely different head space leading into Herning, than I had been in Slovakia. It’s hard to explain, apart from it being a good thing! Another fantasHc Challenge event. The course was great and so much fun and again live coverage for the race. The swim in a lake, and the bike a one 90km loop along rolling hills in the beauHful Danish countryside. The run, four laps in the town center of Herning, which created great atmosphere with all the crowds. It was a very unique run, with lots of twists   and turns, including spiraling up and over a pedestrian footbridge and also running through the middle of the Library. I very much enjoyed racing in Herning, probably helped with my performance leading me to yet another second place by the finish. Again my swim needs work, as I’m giving up too much Hme to the front, but I had a decent bike ensuring I moved up the field to get to T2 in fiMh, but preOy much with forth place. Forth then set off at a blistering pace on the run, and I just had to keep my cool and my pace, having confidence that I’m  stronger at the end of the run and was able to build into it. Fortunately this ran true and whilst we both moved up the field to now be in second and third I was able to move into second at about 13km and press ahead to hold this to the finish.

It was fantastic to see that both The Championships and Challenge Herning had live coverage and set the standard for races.

Now it’s a quick 24hour turnaround in the UK, before heading to Girona in Spain, for a few weeks of training as I prepare for Challenge Roth on 9th  July.

I also recently received my notification letter that I have qualified for the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in  Chattanooga  in  September, however I have turned down this opportunity with my current race schedule and to ensure I can give focus and attention to the World Championships in Kona in October. However it was pleasing to have qualified at the first cut off.

Whilst I was back in the UK for a few days, I took the opportunity to spend the morning with Sock Mine, one of the brand that I’m an ambassador for and kindly support keeping my feet in good shape through their awesome socks. Sock Mine is also a very local company to where I was born in Mansfield and more importantly are bringing manufacturing back to Great Britain. It was great to spend the time with the team, and we managed to shoot  several videos and took several images which will then be released over the coming weeks and  months.

Matthias Schindler - German Champion!

Congratulations Matthias on the German Championship victory!

"I had really given everything and was rewarded in the end for the effort. An incredible feeling. I am definitely not the best driver in my class in Germany, but in this race I had the courage and, of course, the little bit of luck that belongs to it."
