Daerr Dominates Boulder

Profile Design SpeedTeam pro Justin Daerr clinched his first IRONMAN victory at the inaugural IRONMAN Boulder. The race quickly became a virtual two-man duel between Richie Cunningham and Boulder native Justin Daerr. Despite being no stranger to the podium, with several top 3 finishes at banner events such as IRONMAN Lake Placid, Challenge Wanaka and IRONMAN Texas, as Daerr himself put it – the win “was a long time coming.” Daerr emerged from the water roughly 3minutes behind Cunningham, but was able to hang closely on the bike with the two posting practically identical bike splits of 4:24:48 and 4:24:56 respectively. The sun beat down on the beautiful Boulder Creek two-loop run. While fellow competitors faded, Daerr held a steady pace and put down the only sub-3 hour run split of the day with a strong 2:59:41. Daerr posted a final time of 8:20:26 – over ten minutes ahead of the second place finisher.
